Ryan Crews serves as a clinical research scientist within the Center for Lower Extremity Ambulatory Research (CLEAR) and as an associate professor in the Department of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. He joined the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in 2004. His teaching responsibilities are focused upon the themes of 1) clinical research and 2) biomechanics.

Dr. Crews received his BS degree in exercise science from Truman State University in Missouri. While at Truman, he earned an internship within NASA’s Exercise Physiology Research Laboratory in Houston, Texas. While at NASA, he worked on research associated with assessing and improving the health of NASA’s astronaut corps. He then went on to pursue a MS degree in kinesiology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he focused on motor control and biomechanics studies. To support his thesis research, he was awarded the NASA Space Physiology Research Grant by the American College of Sports Medicine. While working at Scholl College he jointly pursued and obtained his PhD in Life Sciences from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Laura Shin, DPM, PhD, is a reconstructive surgeon and physician-scientist who specializes in podiatry, including foot and ankle deformities, Charcot neuroarthropathy, limb salvage, wound care and diabetic feet and ankles.

Her interest in stem cell biology and the potential for using stem cells to repair diabetic wounds, along with her passion for patient care, led her to pursue a dual PhD and DPM degree. In her clinical and research pursuits,

Dr. Shin is dedicated to preserving and restoring mobility, which she believes is crucial to quality of life. She has a special interest in patients with diabetes and other high-risk conditions.

Her research focuses on stem cell regeneration and the body's capacity for healing. In particular, she is examining tissue and stem cell repair in older adults, people with diabetes and people whose immune systems are compromised. Away from Keck Medicine of USC, Dr. Shin loves spending time with her family, including her two young children, sharing a taste for travel and exploring the outdoors. She also plays tennis and enjoys photography and reading.

Paul Graham is an Australian podiatrist with a particular interest in musculoskeletal

conditions. He was awarded a Fellow of the Australasian Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine in 1999. He offers training in plantar pressure analysis through his company, Step Force. He has provided plantar pressure training in universities in Australia and is a faculty member of Manipal University in India. He has used plantar pressure analysis in his clinical practice for over 25 years to diagnose and treat gait and foot dysfunctions.

Erick Janisse, CO, CPed has been involved with pedorthics for over 30 years.  After 20+ years in clinical patient care, he now works as Dr. Comfort’s Senior Manager of Training and Education, and as the Program Director for Midwest School of Modern Pedorthics.  He has been invited faculty for pre-cert and post-cert pedorthic courses and footcare-related symposia across the United States and internationally.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, and on AOPA’s Assembly Planning Committee.

Patrick Cheng is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of eKare, a medical technology company at the forefront of artificial intelligence-driven wound care solutions. A biomedical engineer turned entrepreneur, he leads eKare’s mission to advance wound assessment and healing through innovative 3D imaging and AI technologies. Under his leadership, eKare has developed groundbreaking digital tools that empower clinicians to measure wounds and track healing progress with greater accuracy and efficiency. Cheng’s expertise at the intersection of healthcare and technology has made him a recognized leader in applying AI to improve patient outcomes in wound care. Before founding eKare, Cheng served as a Technology Commercialization Officer at the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation, where he helped translate cutting-edge surgical research into clinical practice. He also conducted research and development in minimally invasive and image-guided surgery, further solidifying his foundation in medical imaging. Cheng holds an MBA from Georgetown University, an MS in Biomedical Engineering (with a focus on medical imaging and image analysis) from the University of Iowa, and a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Paul Langer is a podiatrist in practice with Twin Cities Orthopedics and serves as the medical director of OLT Footcare. He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Minnesota Medical School and the author of Great Feet for Life as well as an editor of Athletic Footwear & Orthoses in Sports Medicine. He has lectured internationally on lower extremity and footwear topics.

Dean Hartley is a Podiatrist of over 15 years. Dean co-founded Balance Podiatry and iOrthotics (Brisbane and New York, USA) and, in 2018, Healthia Limited, Australia, a publicly listed allied health organisation.

In his role as Director, Dean guides the business and technical development of iOrthotics in Australia and the two US businesses, iOrthotics USA (New York) and Performance Laboratories (New Jersey).

Since 2015, Dean has collaborated with The University of Queensland (School of Engineering), Queensland University of Technology and HP to introduce 3D Printed technologies, digital workflows and 3D scanning into orthotic manufacturing.

In 2022, Dean was awarded an Adjunct Fellow position in the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering at The University of Queensland, Queensland, Australia.

Dean also jointly set up the Healthia R&D Hub in 2021 and continues to advise on tech-enabled healthcare with involvement in technology-focused research through the private allied health sector.
